Live a Life That Inspires You

Have you ever stopped to think about your life as if it were a movie?

A few weeks ago, I found myself recounting a story to my friend through a lengthy voice memo. She responded back, laughing and said, "Wow, your life feels like a movie!" It got me thinking - on paper, the story I told did sound like the plot of a romantic comedy. Drama, a meet-cute, an awkward but endearing leading lady stumbling through hilariously bizarre scenarios; it was all there.

However, my reality was quite different from the glossy, perfect scenes we see on the big screen. In my own life, I was living out the role of the awkward leading lady. I felt like a character who was constantly stumbling over her own feet, navigating through a world that didn't always make sense. I wasn't the poised and confident protagonist; I was clunky, unsure, and often uncomfortable in my own skin.

In reflecting back on these pivotal few years I recognized I was in the midst of an identity crisis. As many twenty-somethings, I was struggling with questions of “Who am I? What do I truly want?” I constantly found myself saying yes to things I didn't really want to do, all in an effort to fit into the narrative I thought I should be living.

This realization made me wonder about the leading ladies in romantic comedies. Did they ever feel like they were living a story they wanted to share while they were in the midst of it? Probably not. More likely, they were just living their lives, navigating each awkward encounter and unexpected twist as best they could. It's only in hindsight that their seemingly mundane experiences transform into a captivating story that wants to be shared.

Often, we lose sight of the present, failing to recognize the ordinary moments that show us the beauty in life or reaffirm our choices. This realization inspired me to create a new series, “What I Did When I Could Have Been Working”. The stories I’ll be sharing in this series are going to be used to reshape my own narrative, romanticize, & hold gratitude for the life I get to live. I want to show up for my life, fully present and embracing each moment as it comes (which I know is way easier said than done - but as most things, it’s a practice).

This week’s What I Did When I Could Have Been Working: I drove a couple hours to see a friend I haven’t seen in a few months and I met her brand new baby 😍 We spent the next 8 hours chatting and getting caught up, until it was time for me to head back home.

Sounds like a normal weekend type event, right? That’s what I was thinking too, as I started to drive home.

It wasn’t until I was about halfway home that I remembered it was a Monday. I had just spent the whole Monday, catching up with a friend and snuggling her new baby. I did this and my business didn’t suffer, I didn’t have to use any PTO, or ask permission. I just said yes and unplugged so fully from my business, that I forgot it was technically a “work day”.

It has taken me a long time to get to the point where I allowed myself to have a life outside of work. I no longer subscribe to the mentality that I have to be at my desk from 9am to 5pm in order to be a successful business owner. I get to live a life where my human needs are taken care of with as much care and intention as I do with my business’ needs.

And now I get to empower my clients to create freedom and space in their own lives. Just barely getting through the week so that you get to live your best life on the weekends is so yesterday (cue Hilary Duff’s song).

Throughout this series, I'll be sharing my adventures, the memories I’m making, the friends I’m meeting & the life that I’m wholeheartedly living. Leaving the relative safety of my previous career to take a chance on myself is something I wouldn’t trade for anything - even on the toughest days. I want to experience life with the same enthusiasm and authenticity as those fictional leading ladies, even if it means embracing the awkward, stumbling moments along the way.

Here's to living life as if it were a romantic comedy – a life filled with unexpected twists, meet-cutes, and yes, even the awkward mishaps. It's time to start celebrating the journey, embracing the uncertainties, and discovering the magic that lies within the seemingly ordinary. You never know what expansion or up-level is brewing under the surface, ready to change life as you know it.
